Arlington, Waco and Durant Terrazzo

Terrazzo is not just a village in Italy – it is also a quite sought after flooring material. It is almost certain that you have walked on a terrazzo floor, as it is very popular in hospitals, commercial establishments, and government buildings. Often incredibly smooth and polished to a shine, terrazzo is actually made of chips (usually marble, quartz, glass or granite) placed into a cement-based mixture.
Terrazzo lasts a very long time but it is a bit more expensive than other flooring materials, as it takes a skilled technician to install this labor-intensive flooring. To create a traditional terrazzo floor requires a three stage process. First, the installer must make a solid and level concrete foundation for the terrazzo to rest on, which is generally between 3-4 inches deep. Second, divides are placed to make the desired design and the areas are filled in with a cement mixture filled with colored chips. While the mixture sets, more chips are added for a top layer and then, usually, ground and polished to give a smooth looking surface.
Modern terrazzo is easier to install but still takes skilled hands. Known as epoxy terrazzo, this system is less thick, yet stronger, has a higher resistance to cracking, comes in a wider variety of colors, and is faster to install. The only real disadvantage modern terrazzo has is that it is not as good at resisting the elements as classic cement terrazzo, so it is not recommended to use cement terrazzo for any exterior Durant project.
Terrazzo is a great material for making any form of design imprinted into the floor of your establishment. A Bautista Tile Setter can create almost any design you can think of. Using the latest computer technology we create a virtual replica of the design you want so you know what you will get before you see the finished product. There is a lot of competition in the Arlington, Waco and Durant business community and we can help you stand out from the competition.
Though widely used for commercial purposes, terrazzo is great for homes, too! Floors, bathrooms, countertops, and sinks can all be done in the medium of terrazzo. Depending on the project, A Bautista Tile Setter can prefabricate the terrazzo so the only time spent in your Durant home or business is installing the piece.
When choosing between getting a terrazzo or mosaic design for your home or office building, the choice is roughly between the classic and the modern. Terrazzo creates a smooth, clean looking picture or design, giving the art a contemporary appeal. Mosaic, being made up of individual tile pieces, has a slightly coarser look to it, reminiscent of the long tradition of mosaic art brought down from antiquity, also known as Mediterranean appeal. Depending on the impression you want to give, we can help you come up with the perfect solution.

Terrazzo Repair and Restoration

Terrazzo is prized for its longevity and look but eventually everything needs a bit of a touch up. Enough foot traffic over time can remove the protective resin in areas and if it gets deep enough it can start to break up the design underneath. For terrazzo that does not have the protective coating the small pieces of tile or stone can become dislodged leaving the look uneven and unappealing. A Bautista Tile Setter can repair and restore your Durant terrazzo back to the day it was first made.
If you are no longer happy with your Durant terrazzo then A Bautista Tile Setter can help with that as well. We can remove the old terrazzo and make a full restoration of the area. We can recreate the old pattern with a new color system if desired or do a full restoration with a new design and treatment. If you are unsure of what procedure you wish to have that is not a problem at all. We will come to your establishment and assess the state of your terrazzo- giving you a free estimate for different levels of repair and restoration.

Terrazzo Floor Polishing

Has your terrazzo lost the luster that it once had? Foot traffic and pollution will inevitably tarnish the look of your terrazzo, removing its shine. The terrazzo experts at A Bautista Tile Setter can bring your terrazzo back to its former glory.
Because there is a special lacquer or resin over most terrazzo the restoration process is not as simple as just applying a polish. If the resin has chipped or cracked then it should be repaired before polishing to make sure that the job is done right.
Basement or several floors of a building we can restore the sheen of your terrazzo efficiently and at a cost effective price. The terrazzo of your Durant home or business does not have to look dull and faded; call A Bautista Tile Setter today for a free estimate.
